Atlantic Chamber Calls for Action on Deficit Spending in Budget 2024
“Canada’s Budget 2024 missed the mark for businesses,” said Rhonda Tulk-Lane, CEO of the Atlantic Chamber of Commerce. “Our country needs to actively look at ways to reduce the cost of living and the cost of doing business. The Atlantic Chamber continues to call on Government to reduce deficit spending, launch a comprehensive review of our taxation system, and actively explore reducing regulatory burden for business."

End the Carbon Tax

The Atlantic Chamber of Commerce (ACC) is sending a message to Ottawa today that we do not support the carbon tax. "It is the wrong tool to fix a global problem," states CEO Rhonda Tulk-Lane.
The ACC is calling on its 90 chamber members to send a letter to their MPs today.
“Our region is facing a significant increase in the cost of living and doing business is getting harder,” said Rhonda Tulk-Lane, CEO of the Atlantic Chamber of Commerce. "Atlantic Canada simply cannot afford another tax increase. The federal government's carbon pricing model is failing us. Canada produces 1.5% of the world's carbon emissions. We are doing our share to help the environment and we will do more, taxing is punitive and is not the right path forward."

In response to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's Call to Action 92, the Chamber urges its members to embrace the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples as a guiding framework. This entails a commitment to meaningful consultation, fostering respectful relationships, and obtaining the free, prior, and informed consent of Indigenous peoples before embarking on economic projects. Moreover, the Chamber advocates for equitable access to employment, training, and educational opportunities for Indigenous communities, ensuring they reap sustainable benefits from economic development initiatives.
Recognizing the importance of education, the Chamber encourages businesses to provide comprehensive training for management and staff on the history of Indigenous peoples, including the legacy of residential schools, Indigenous rights, and Aboriginal-Crown relations. Emphasizing intercultural competency, conflict resolution, and anti-racism, these efforts aim to foster a more inclusive and harmonious corporate environment rooted in mutual understanding and respect.
