Over the past three years a destination experience event called ?The Big One? has been held in our community. This event showcases our picturesque waterfront and brings together businesses, community groups and decision makers. We show the rest of the province, and indeed beyond, the many benefits of living in, working in, owning a business in and visiting our region. We work across community boundaries and think in a more regional manner. The Avon Region consists of Windsor, Hantsport and West Hants. The people and businesses in this region have a natural connection and we use that for collective strength. Smaller towns and more rural regions need a different approach to economic and community development. On both a principled and practical front, we need to create economic drivers without relying on government support. The ever changing nature of funding models means consistency can often be hard to create in developing strategies. This model helps to put an end to that. By allowing us to create a unique, community supported and economically successful growth strategy, we become more than just self reliant but able to grow and expand. I invite you to come see and learn from this event. We believe in sharing best practices with communities that face the same issues we do, parochial attitudes will get us nowhere.
