The Digby Area Board of Trade (DABT) will be hosting the 2014 Annual Business awards of Excellence event on June 23 at the Digby Pines.The Guest Speaker for this year’s gala awards evening will be the Honourable Mark Furey; MLA for Lunenburg West, and Minister of Municipal Affairs & Minister of Service Nova Scotia.“Business activity in the Digby area is definitely trending up this year and nominations are already coming in at a record pace”, said DABT president Peter MacLellan.He pointed to the announcement of a replacement ferry for the Digby to Saint John service, the increasing activity and global interest associated with several renewable energy initiatives in the area, and the facility improvements and business bustle associated with the Port of Digby as just some of the encouraging indicators that commercial confidence has returned to the area.MacLellan added that the DABT was delighted that Minister Furey had agreed to give the highlight remarks at this year’s event and appreciated the provincial government’s willingness to assist in area business promotion.The ten awards categories to be presented are:1) Life Achievement Award: A business or an individual who has made a significant contribution to the community within the context of their career; 2) Hospitality Award: A business/individual/organization who has shown a consistent pattern of providing positive tourism experience for travelers to our area; 3) Tourism Excellence: A business/organization/person who has made a significant contribution to the enhancement/development of our tourism product;4) Community Contribution (Business): A business/individual who has made a significant contribution to the community through their consistent support of projects/ programs that are for the benefit of our area. 5) Community Contribution (Non Profit): An organization or an individual who have made a significant contribution through their consistent support of projects/programs that are beneficial to the area’ 6) Customer Service Award: A business or service associate who has consistentlyprovided excellent service to the customer; 7) Environmental Service Award: This award recognizes the individual or business who has demonstrated outstanding dedication, involvement in and accomplishment of environmental goals with a particular emphasis on proper solid waste managementor waste reduction initiatives; 8) The Ian Russell Entrepreneur Award Entrepreneur Award: A business/individual who has either developed a product or enhanced a marketing opportunity that is unique or innovative; 9) Business Excellence (NSBI Trophy): A business/individual who has through consistent performance and solid practice made a positive impact in this area. This award is one of achievement within the business community. 10)Export Achievement The Export Achievement is awarded to a business in that has achieved success at marketing outside of NS.The deadline for Nominations is May 31st.
