The Atlantic Chamber of Commerce, in support of policy development and advocacy, is organizing a meeting on April 12, 2016 at the Holiday Inn in Truro. The objective of the meeting is to bring together our member chambers and boards of trade in Nova Scotia to review advocacy activities, hear from experts on issues of common interest to all, and reconnect with other chamber staff and volunteers.
The meeting will run from 10:30 am to 2:30 pm to facilitate same day travel from all parts of the province. In the morning we will review recent advocacy efforts and successes, and review the action priorities identified in your responses to our annual survey. Our lunch keynote speaker will be the Honourable Lena Metledge Diab, Minister of Immigration to discuss issues related to the recent influx of Syrian refugees and longer term strategies to increase levels of immigration to Nova Scotia
Your provincial advisory committee has suggested the following afternoon program, which will include several short presentations on issues that impact business across the province:- Presentation by government on proposed changes to the Accessibilities Act
- Improving student (future employee) performance in literacy, numeracy and technology
- Preparing for small business succession – issues and considerations
- Carbon Pricing and its potential impact on the business and the economy.
We will confirm the full program and names of presenters on or before April 1st.

Business Truth & Reconciliation
The Atlantic Chamber of Commerce takes proactive steps to promote reconciliation and respect for Indigenous rights within the corporate sector. In response to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's Call to Action 92, the Chamber urges its members to embrace the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples as a guiding framework.
Recognizing the importance of education, the Chamber encourages businesses to provide comprehensive training for management and staff on the history of Indigenous peoples, including the legacy of residential schools, Indigenous rights, and Aboriginal-Crown relations. Emphasizing intercultural competency, conflict resolution, and anti-racism, these efforts aim to foster a more inclusive and harmonious corporate environment rooted in mutual understanding and respect.
