Today, the Greater Charlottetown Area Chamber CEO Bianca McGregor issued the following statement regarding the announcement of a bridge and ferry fares reduction, effective Aug. 1st:
“The Greater Charlottetown Area Chamber of Commerce welcomes the announcement of a reduction in the Confederation Bridge tolls and ferry fares.
Our Chamber has been advocating for infrastructure that supports interprovincial trade and labour mobility, and this is a meaningful step in the right direction. Bridge and ferry fares have been repeatedly raised by our members as a significant cost to transporting commercial goods and the movement of employees for work across the region. Lower costs will benefit local businesses, tourism operators, residents, and visitors.
We commend the federal government for listening to the concerns of Islanders and business communities across Atlantic Canada. We look forward to seeing the impact this decision will have on economic activity, connectivity, and commerce in our province and throughout the region.”
