Letter from the Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador Re: the Closure of the Province's Boston Office.

    THE PREMIER
    GOVERNMENT OF
    NEWFOUNDLAND AND LABRADOR

    Dear Ms. Tulk-Lane,

I am writing to inform you that the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador is proceeding with the closure of the Province's Boston Office.

This decision aligns with our commitment to responsibly manage public resources. At a time when financial pressures are significant, we must ensure government funds are directed toward initiatives that best support long-term growth and stability.

Long-term economic growth is one of my government's priorities-because the path to fiscal sustainability starts with getting Newfoundland and Labrador moving again. That means focusing on job creation, growing our economy, and harnessing the province's full economic potential. We need more people paying less tax, not fewer people paying more tax.

From a strategic perspective, it is not effective to concentrate our efforts solely in the Boston area. The global trade environment is changing rapidly, with shifting tariffs, evolving market conditions, and new opportunities emerging globally. To remain competitive, we must broaden our outreach and support market diversification beyond any single geographic location.

Moving forward, we will leverage the extensive expertise within the Departments of Jobs, Growth and Rural Development, Energy and Mines, Fisheries and Aquaculture, and the Intergovernmental Affairs Secretariat to advance our international trade and seek investment. These teams are well positioned to support a wider range of global opportunities, including in Asia and Europe.

My government is committed to executing a vigorous economic development agenda-one that ensures the resources of our province are developed by Newfoundlanders and Labradorians for the benefit of Newfoundlanders and Labradorians. This work will be carried out in close partnership with industry and business stakeholders across the province.

Your collaboration remains essential as we pursue both established and emerging opportunities.

While our physical presence in Boston will conclude, our cooperation with New England  partners will continue. These efforts will be coordinated from our home base here in  Newfoundland and Labrador.
Thank you for your continued partnership and dedication to advancing the economic interests of  our province. If you have any questions or require additional information, please feel feel to reach out.

    Sincerely,
    HONOURABLE TONY WAKEHAM
Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador MHA, Stephenville-Port au Port
