    The Immigration and Population Growth (IPG) Branch of Labour, Skills and Immigration is pleased to announce the official relaunch of the International Graduate Entrepreneur and Entrepreneur streams as permanent programs, effective February 26, 2024.

    For those of you who participated in our consultation with Partners, thank you for the valuable information and recommendations you provided that have helped us make these streams more efficient and attractive.

    These partner recommendations were combined with an internal evaluation of the ENT streams, conducted by the Planning and Excellence Unit, Strategy and Planning Division of the Department of Labour Skills and Immigration (LSI) between November 2021 and March 2022.
    Some of the key advantages of the changes are:

    • Support for growth in rural areas: A lower threshold to qualify for businesses outside HRM.
    • Within HRM: 600K net worth, 150K investment
    • Outside HRM: 400K net worth, 100K investment
    • Support for growth in key sectors: Greater flexibility that allows IPG to issue Invitations to Apply (ITA) to strategically chosen candidates;
    • Support for business succession initiatives: IPG will proactively work with partners to help find potential buyers for existing businesses;
    • Smoother processes: A new, online application;
    • Wider pool of eligible candidates: Real estate development and construction businesses may now qualify under certain conditions, including the applicant’s ability to demonstrate that their business will provide a compelling benefit to the province.

    The Atlantic Chamber of Commerce is taking proactive steps to promote reconciliation and respect for Indigenous rights within the corporate sector. In response to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's Call to Action 92, the Chamber urges its members to embrace the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples as a guiding framework. This entails a commitment to meaningful consultation, fostering respectful relationships, and obtaining the free, prior, and informed consent of Indigenous peoples before embarking on economic projects. Moreover, the Chamber advocates for equitable access to employment, training, and educational opportunities for Indigenous communities, ensuring they reap sustainable benefits from economic development initiatives.

    Recognizing the importance of education, the Chamber encourages businesses to provide comprehensive training for management and staff on the history of Indigenous peoples, including the legacy of residential schools, Indigenous rights, and Aboriginal-Crown relations. Emphasizing intercultural competency, conflict resolution, and anti-racism, these efforts aim to foster a more inclusive and harmonious corporate environment rooted in mutual understanding and respect.
