    Yarmouth organizations team up to tackle shortage of doctors, housing

    The Yarmouth and Area Chamber of Commerce and Coastal Financial Credit Union have teamed up to build a five-unit apartment building exclusively for doctors.

    Yarmouth, N.S. hoping to ‘level the playing field’ as it tries to attract doctors

    Nova Scotia is experiencing a health-care crisis amid a lack of doctors, long wait times for ambulances and even longer waits in emergency departments, and the fishing town of Yarmouth on the South Shore is no exception. In response to the number of residents without a family doctor, The Credit Union and the Yarmouth Chamber of Commerce have started to build a seven-room housing unit for medical residents and learners in order to attract and keep health-care workers in the area.

    Recognizing the importance of education, the Chamber encourages businesses to provide comprehensive training for management and staff on the history of Indigenous peoples, including the legacy of residential schools, Indigenous rights, and Aboriginal-Crown relations.
