    ACC Announces Details for 2018 AGM & Professional Development Day

    Windsor, NS (May 23, 2018) – The Atlantic Chamber of Commerce (ACC) announced today that the Truro & Colchester Chamber of Commerce will host ACC’s 122nd Annual General Meeting and Professional Development (PD) Day on May 28-29 at the Holiday Inn Prince Street in Truro.

    This year, ACC’s AGM will feature keynote speaker Francis McGuire, President of the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA), who will speak on the importance of innovation and developing a skilled workforce in Atlantic Canada. Also addressing delegates at the annual meeting will be Jennifer Hagen, Senior Director, Chamber Development and Services, Canadian Chamber of Commerce.

    Canadian author and corporate trainer, Eddie Lemoine, will lead a chamber PD session Journey to Engagement with sessions including: current trends, working with five (5) generations, and diversity in the workplace. Joining him will be Mohamed-Ali Kessentini, Director of Strategic Partnerships, First Data and Yanik Ottenbreit, Customer Relations Specialist, Chamber of Commerce Group Insurance Plan.

    At the AGM, ACC will also swear in its next chairman and announce its 2018-2019 board of directors who represent chambers and business throughout Atlantic Canada.

    Members are invited to attend the meeting where they will get the chance to review the annual report and accounts for the period ending Dec. 31, 2017.     The Atlantic Chamber of Commerce takes proactive steps to promote reconciliation and respect for Indigenous rights within the corporate sector. In response to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's Call to Action 92, the Chamber urges its members to embrace the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples as a guiding framework.

     

    Recognizing the importance of education, the Chamber encourages businesses to provide comprehensive training for management and staff on the history of Indigenous peoples, including the legacy of residential schools, Indigenous rights, and Aboriginal-Crown relations. Emphasizing intercultural competency, conflict resolution, and anti-racism, these efforts aim to foster a more inclusive and harmonious corporate environment rooted in mutual understanding and respect.
