    2022-2023 Board of Directors Announced at Annual General Meeting

     
    Windsor, NS (June 2, 2022) – The Atlantic Chamber of Commerce (ACC) is pleased to announce its board of directors for 2022-2023. Stephen Rankin was sworn in as ACC’s new board chair during the 126th annual general meeting held in Moncton New Brunswick. Based in Halifax, Stephen, a partner at Wesben Global Ltd., is a risk advisory consultant focused on strategic and stakeholder risk.
    I am honoured to lead the Atlantic Chamber of Commerce at such a crucial time in our region’s history,” said Stephen Rankin, Chair, Atlantic Chamber of Commerce. “The pandemic has reminded us of the importance of community, and the power of collaboration with our Chambers, partners, and other business organizations to help our network of more than 16,000 businesses successfully navigate out of the pandemic and ensure they are positioned to compete and thrive beyond it.”
     

    Biography of Steve Rankin

    Steve is a consultant focused on risk, strategy and sustainability for the design, construction, and operation of major projects and for organizations operating within complex political, legal, and regulatory environments. He has over 25 years of experience in marketing and communications in the energy industry, manufacturing, and consumer goods.
    He is active in the community through volunteer roles in organizations such as the Discovery Centre International where he serves as chair and the Mi’Kmawey Debert Cultural Centre.
    Consisting of both chamber and corporate partner representatives from throughout Atlantic Canada, Steve is joined on the ACC Executive by:

    The Atlantic Chamber of Commerce is taking proactive steps to promote reconciliation and respect for Indigenous rights within the corporate sector. In response to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's Call to Action 92, the Chamber urges its members to embrace the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples as a guiding framework. This entails a commitment to meaningful consultation, fostering respectful relationships, and obtaining the free, prior, and informed consent of Indigenous peoples before embarking on economic projects. Moreover, the Chamber advocates for equitable access to employment, training, and educational opportunities for Indigenous communities, ensuring they reap sustainable benefits from economic development initiatives.

     

    Recognizing the importance of education, the Chamber encourages businesses to provide comprehensive training for management and staff on the history of Indigenous peoples, including the legacy of residential schools, Indigenous rights, and Aboriginal-Crown relations. Emphasizing intercultural competency, conflict resolution, and anti-racism, these efforts aim to foster a more inclusive and harmonious corporate environment rooted in mutual understanding and respect.
