    Dear Premier King:
     
    On behalf of our network of chambers of commerce representing more than 1,700 businesses across Prince Edward Island (P.E.I.), the Atlantic Chamber of Commerce (ACC) congratulates you on your electoral victory. We look forward to working with you and your government in the years to come.
     
    Businesses are eager for the province to explore ways to reduce the cost of doing business and further develop the economy. ACC recognizes the importance of the commitments your party made during the election campaign as they will likely have a meaningful impact on businesses. The commitments to housing programs, upskilling, and growing the workforce will positively impact the labour market and will grow the province’s economy. 
     

    The province should also take steps to reduce the cost of doing business. One of the most cost-efficient ways for government to support businesses in this regard is to reduce red tape. We would ask that your government consider implementing a comprehensive red tape reduction plan to help attract investment and create growth. By streamlining regulations, digitizing processes, and simplifying paperwork, government can help businesses save time and money, and encourage innovation and investment.
     
    ACC believes that by working together, government and business can create a thriving and prosperous economy in Prince Edward Island. ACC stands ready to work with your government to explore solutions that will support growth and prosperity for the province.

    The Atlantic Chamber of Commerce is taking proactive steps to promote reconciliation and respect for Indigenous rights within the corporate sector. In response to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's Call to Action 92, the Chamber urges its members to embrace the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples as a guiding framework. This entails a commitment to meaningful consultation, fostering respectful relationships, and obtaining the free, prior, and informed consent of Indigenous peoples before embarking on economic projects. Moreover, the Chamber advocates for equitable access to employment, training, and educational opportunities for Indigenous communities, ensuring they reap sustainable benefits from economic development initiatives.

     

    Recognizing the importance of education, the Chamber encourages businesses to provide comprehensive training for management and staff on the history of Indigenous peoples, including the legacy of residential schools, Indigenous rights, and Aboriginal-Crown relations. Emphasizing intercultural competency, conflict resolution, and anti-racism, these efforts aim to foster a more inclusive and harmonious corporate environment rooted in mutual understanding and respect.
